So, without further adieu, let’s get to the list. If you are a female basketball player, you will be able to relate to these wise and inspirational quotes from various coaches, players, and celebrities. It was amazing to watch how much her overall game improved thanks to some of these quotes. She relied on inspirational quotes from some of her favorite women’s basketball players to keep her highly motivated. If I can think of more I'll add them.I remember several years ago when my daughter started playing high school basketball. I'm probably missing a bunch but this is all I can think of right now and my hands are hurting hahaha. Once you/the ball crosses the line to be off the court, it's out of bounds. Out of bounds: You know the rectangle on the outside of the court? Those are the bounds. Doesn't bounce off the backboard or roll around the rim. Nothing but net: When someone shoots and the ball touches literally nothing but the net. Turnover: When one team loses the ball to the other team without scoring a goal Layup: When someone runs up to the basket and just kind of tosses the ball inĭunk: probably know this, but when someone runs up to the basket, jumps up, and pretty much puts or slams the ball directly into the net Then a teammate stands in front of the person guarding you and blocks them so that you can run around. You have the ball and someone is guarding you. (Setting) a pick/screen / pick and roll: Alright, I don't really know if I'll be totally right, but this is a move you might hear people talk about. When the time is up there's a buzzer, sometimes people will shoot at the last moment so it's a shot "at the buzzer" Shot at the buzzer/buzzer-beater: Not really for when you play on your own, but in professional games the quarters are timed. You might hear someone say "I couldn't get a shot off!", which is usually just saying you didn't have a chance to get in any shots, probably cause someone was blocking you so well Get a shot off: pretty much just a way of saying shoot. See it hereīlock: When you stop someone from shooting/passing I think it's Kobe Bryant is known for it, so you might also hear someone say "Kobe" as they do it (or attempt it lol). See it hereįade away: Like a jump shot, but the person jumps backward from the line so they "fade away". Jump shot: Sometimes when people shoot they jump a bit (usually on three-pointers I think), so it's a jump shot. Guard: Usually you have someone you're guarding, so you basically stay by them and keep them from getting the ball/scoring (like I said I don't play so that's the best I can explain hahaha)īeing open: If someone is "open", they're not being guarded so they can get the ball/shoot without someone stopping them When you're teammate has the ball and you think you should get it you can say "pass" or "pass to me" ![]() Pass: This is probably easy and you know it but just in case: when you give the ball to a teammate you're passing it. That semi-circle is called the three point lineįoul: When you do something wrong in the game (I don't know specific fouls) and they penalize you/your team and reward the person you fouledįree Throw: Sometimes after someone fouls you, you get to shoot once or twice from the "free throw line", which is the straight line going across the 3-point-line. Three-Pointer: shots from behind the semi-circle for 3 points. You probably know what I mean since you play hahaha I'll write everything I can think of just in case:ĭribble: When you're the one with the ball you have to "dribble", which is when you basically bounce the ball up and down. I don't play or watch basketball and I don't know how much you know but I can try to write some out (that I know of).
